About

Wearable technology

Smartwatch icon.

Wearable technologies have become everyday products for physical exercise and well-being. Still, these wearables mainly measure physical activity connected with individual attributes like heart rate, sleeping quality, and recovery which are indicated mostly visually by mobile phone or wrist device applications. Wearable technologies can create the basis for a much wider range of applications and international markets.

Augmenting human abilities

Human augmentation enables extending human senses, cognition, and ways of action. Wearable technologies make it possible to implement such new abilities in a seamless and natural way. They become an extension of self. Extended reality through different kinds of smart glasses and smart helmets augments human vision to surrounding environment. Context-sensitive information can be presented through different human senses. The solutions created in the AWE project enable a wider utilization of metaverses in both professional and hobby uses.

Co-creating future solutions

In AWE, we develop and do research on software and hardware solutions that enable human augmentation in industry-driven and defence-related use cases. The use cases will be implemented as collaborative efforts between different companies and research teams. We will utilize hardware and software technologies from partners and integrate them into wearable research platforms. We also consider ethical and societal issues.
